Homemade Hummus is a smooth and creamy dip made with chickpeas, tahini, fresh lemon juice and garlic. Quick to prepare and naturally rich in flavour, it is perfect as a dip for vegetables, a spread for wraps and toast, or as part of salads and sharing platters.
Ingredients
-
1 tin chickpeas in water (approximately 400g), drained
-
½ cup tahini
-
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
-
2 garlic cloves
-
Pinch of pink Himalayan salt
-
2–4 tbsp cold water (optional, for consistency)
Optional Toppings
-
Drizzle of olive oil
-
Pinch of paprika
-
Fresh parsley
-
Whole chickpeas
Directions
Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly.
Add the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and salt to a food processor.
Blend until smooth, adding a little cold water if required to achieve your preferred consistency.
Taste and adjust the lemon or seasoning if desired.
Transfer to a serving bowl and finish with a drizzle of olive oil and your chosen toppings.
Recipe Note
Add extra lemon juice for a tangier flavour.
Use ice-cold water for an even creamier texture.
Sprinkle with smoked paprika or cumin before serving.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
